Couldn’t have said it better myself! Someone needed to finally tell this to the “og fans” because it is getting fucking ridiculous. I can’t go one day online looking at ninjago content (especially on TikTok, holy shit, don’t even get me started on the ninjago “og fans” on TikTok) without comment sections being filled with homophobic and generally bigoted people.

Ninjago has always been a woke show, always, and that’s exactly why so many people are fans. I totally get gendered petnames like dude, sis, bro, and whatever else, and I get why some people might be confused as to why some trans people might take issue with a petname you might think is neutral. However, I do want people to remember that trans people often have different relationships with those petnames because they're gendered, and they might be uncomfortable with those connotations. A trans woman who doesn't want you to call her "dude" is probably not doing it to anger or accuse you of anything, but she might just have a negative relationship with that word.

I get that it can be hard to change habits, but it is worth it to include trans people. If a trans person in your life asks you not to use certain words, I promise they aren't trying to fuck you over or make you feel like you're under attack. They are just expressing a boundary - one that cis people also express.

I think you mentioned you're cis, right? Many of my friends and acquaintances right now are cis women, some not even part of the lgbtq+ community. I'm a trans girl, and I'm very bad at standing up for myself. How should I talk about language they use that makes me uncomfortable? I don't know if I'm able to explain why "biological women" is a term I'm wary of because it's so often a dog whistle, or when they talk very sweepingly about the effects of male/female socialization, or espousing very cisnormative beliefs in general. I don't wanna be misunderstood and I don't think the words they are using are necessarily wrong or bad or hateful, I've just seen them so often in that context and am a bit shaken hearing them. I also don't think they want to hurt me or are cognizant of my discomfort. I'd love your input on this.

Its funny you bring up the children in Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss because there was literally a situation where like what a 9-10 year old was at a Hazbin convention asking Blake Roman an inappropriate question regarding Angel Dust. It is so mind boggling to watch. Hazbin and Helluva are supposed to be for adults (+18) but the both shows don’t seem adult despite covering big topics like rape, kinks, etc. It feels like 2 kids in a trench coat attempting to sneak into a R rated movie.

Rin, identity issues, and the complications of being an isolated, alienated teenager

It feels sort of weird to say but I generally don’t head canon characters as having particular sexualities. Whatever people go for in fics is usually fine with me - gay, lesbian, bi, pan, something more general like queer. As long as it makes sense for the story they’ve built and the character they’ve shaped to fit it, I’m good. Unless you’re ignoring a canon LGBTQ+ sexuality, in which case, yeah, I’ll take issue with that.

But anyway. Rin.

I’ve got my personal ship for him (BonRin my beloved), but regardless of the pairing I see him as bisexual. He’s so open with his infatuation with Shiemi, and okay, sure, fandom likes to ignore the love interest in shounen for the most part because we’ve got gay ships to peddle. But I don’t see the point in that unless it really reads like it’s a front, or a result of a character suppressing themselves for one reason or another. And with Rin, I think it’s pretty clear his affection for Shiemi is sincere. You technically have the in-universe evidence of the demon that brought out his true desires to back that up, but even without it, Rin likes her. It’s complicated because of Yukio and Shiemi’s own inexperience with romance, and yet I never once doubt he really likes her.

That being said… he’s very appreciative of the guys in his life, too. (Peddling my gay ship here) Bon in particular, considering he’s often admiring how cool he thinks Bon is, that his haircut suits him whether it’s the blonde rooster look or the undercut. If you don’t want to see it as romantic interest, that’s your prerogative, but to me Rin comes across as seeing cool and cute as different traits he finds attractive (in Bon and Shiemi respectively).

I also think his bisexuality would fit neatly into his narrative struggles to “pass” throughout the early parts of the series. Rin has grown up as the neighborhood problem child, ostracized for being violent, and eventually he decides he’s fine with just his brother and his father — and the rest of the monastery, presumably — for company. (Except that’s absolutely not true and clearly he’s starved for friendship and support.) People looked at him and saw a monster, even before his demonic heritage made an appearance; why would he bother giving them even more ammunition when it comes to reasons to hate him? So no matter when he figured out his attraction to guys, he’s not going to lean into it, because he also likes girls, right? (Ignoring for a moment that bisexuality is a lot more nuanced than that.)

Rin likes girls, Rin is human — that’s what’s going to get people to like him, or at the very least tolerate him. That he likes guys, that he’s half demon, he can shove that shit down and pretend it doesn’t exist. Lock up any stray thoughts and keep the sword sheathed around anyone who doesn’t already know.

(Excuse me for being amused by Rin wielding his humanity and supposed heterosexuality as a sword and shield.)

The problem, of course, is that he can’t keep up the facade forever. The narrative won’t let him. Rin has to embrace his demonic side, because it’s the only way to move forward and to continue to help his loved ones. And once he’s moved past the issue of his friends being upset over the deception, when they understand he’s still Rin despite what he’d hidden from them, Rin is finally allowed to be himself. He uses his flames, he lets his tail move freely in the open around the Cram School kids. Rin still doesn’t like this side of himself — it’s inextricably tied to every moment of pain and isolation he’s dealt with his entire life, including the death of Father Fujimoto (and, y’know, his mom). But he is moving forward, he’s trying to adapt.

And isn’t that some great fucking subtext for his bisexuality, too?

i dont exactly consider myself a pro-shipper but i am VERY anti-censorship. i hate all censorship. absolutely nothing in media should be censored whatsoever, the only exception being media that is marketed towards children because it should be up to parents/guardians/trusted adults to decide what media children are ready to consume.

Update on the Bridgerton stuff: the online fandom is so homophobic and horrible, and the mods of stuff like the main subreddit refuse to do anything about it (but will remove comments by people upset about the homophobia for "generalizing") that LGBTQ+ fans have had to make their own spaces. There's a whole separate subreddit that bans homophobia called r/bridgertonlgbt, and of course the ones from the main one keep trying to get it banned with false reports by accusing them of "heterophobia" and "doxxing" (re: complaining about their homophobic comments in their own spaces). Assholes who are mad about them making a straight romance from the books lesbian in the show are also doing petitions and flooding like every Instagram post including one by the original author about how she was initially skeptical about such a big change from her books but she's had lots of talks with the showrunners and she trusts them, and has always supported greater diversity in the series. People keep misusing that stupid fucking George R.R. Martin quote (about how creators these days don't do anything original but just warp other people's existing works) when he himself has condemned "the show must be exactly like the books" fan attitudes, especially the racist tantrums around House of the Dragon casting a couple years ago. And on a post by the author HERSELF where she explains why she gave the go-ahead, supports these changes, and condemns homophobia in the fandom! How is she "warping" her own work???

I've heard about this all secondhand from my friend and it just makes me so glad I don't go on Insta or Reddit and instead keep my fandom activities to Tumblr or AO3. Where for all the drama over other things, at least this kind of rancid homophobia you get in spaces where everyone is cis and straight feels entitled to only ever consume straight and cis romance stories (they'll claim they "are okay with gay characters but new ones!" but their example is always like a side character who has an unhappy ending, can you really not get why queer fans are not satisfied with that?) at least that's not so much a thing here. Instead I'll be happily writing Francesca/Michaela and Benedict/male characters slash and ignoring and blocking the haters. And remembering that that show has way more fans than use social media and everyone involved is continuing to refuse to listen to the loud idiots online. Like everyone I talk to about it who isn't super online, most of whom are straight women, think the change is really cool and can't wait to see what they do with it. Some of them have read the books, but most have not.

She has a magical chronic disorder which has flare-ups, is mitigated by taking medication (potions), and has similar side effects to many real disorders such as fatigue, greying hair, and physical impairment (drains magic, a natural ability of *most witches). Unlike in other stories however, her condition is NOT ever completely cured. It does evolve and become more manageable over the course of the story, but she still experiences symptoms from it. Eda also loses one of her arms later in the story. She does get a replacement hook, but it is never shown whether she has a functional prosthetic or not. Most likely, she only has one fully functioning arm after this. As for being queer, she is in a relationship with a nonbinary person and is all but confirmed bisexual (has a secret box with the bi flag on it seriously why else would she have this). So uhh...about this person Mikaila...

So I saw that Mikaila reblogged a post from this artist that I completely blanked out on remembering who they were as they were talking about a pro LGBTQ+ awareness holiday. The only thing I knew that they're name was Sophie Labelle aka AssignedMale and that they were an artist.

Then I looked up and researched who they were and...

I'm gonna drop the pretenses and say that Sophie is not only a VERY controversial person in the furry community, but has also been very guilty of a BUNCH of disgusting things involving their art. Especially with what they used to reference in their drawings.

I had to crop out the full image of this Facebook post calling out Sophie because I am not stupid enough to showing what they used to reference cause the text says enough and I'm pretty sure Tumblr would nuke my account if I did cause I sure it's against ToS. I dunno if Sophie has ever addressed this post, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had to discuss the allegations even though the evidence is pretty much not in their favor.

I know some people go on a stigma on the whole kink shaming or don't kink shame thing, but the fact the whole diaper fur or whatever you call it is frowned upon in half of the furry community and it's VERY frowned upon outside of the community. Maybe pulling the transphobia card while drawing and defending your kink is honestly not the best thing to do, especially when you assume that everyone is acting in bad faith in you when the evidence is stacked against you. And I usually could fucking care less about kink shaming. And that's from someone like me who's part of the LGBTQ+ community and a strong supporter too.

On a slight but similar tangent, seeing Mikaila do this reminds me of when Frogan saw an article seeing Daniel Larson getting arrested and charged with threatening to bomb the White House and wanting him set free and not knowing he's been in prison for REALLY awful things. Like not doing basic research on a person so they don't end up being a very controversial and widely disliked person.

So yeah, reminded me of that.

I truly wonder how often Mikaila and Lily have defended, followed, or befriended people who are either problematic or are very infamous for the actions or words they have said to garner it. Cause there have been a few examples including Sophie here.

Cause honestly, blindly supporting someone who has a very infamous reputation once or even twice is bad. But when you constantly supported or defended someone who's very infamous, you are gonna get a lot of people questioning you for why you would align yourself with them, especially when you are friends or talk to them a bunch. You are gonna start having people cut ties with you cause some people are not gonna take it lightly anymore.

But seriously, having someone like Sophie involved with you in anyway is not going to make you look good in anyway and it will make things worse and will damage your reputation. Plus, your credibility as well as someone like Mikaila whose an artist and Lily as a content creator on YouTube.

To everyone, always be aware of the people who support you or vice versa that have some kind of big following cause you will never know if they might be liked or disliked as a person and if they are truly good or bad people themselves. Always try to be self-aware about yourselves when it comes to stuff like this.

Obviously Project 2025 and the attack on women and members of the LGBTQ+ community is absolutely horrifying and very much real, no matter how much Trump has tried to distance himself from it.

But I want to talk about what's in the Republican Party's actual plan, because these are probably the things that will happen first, and it may also be helpful in terms of speaking to conservative relatives (especially the ones who are not fully gone far-right MAGA worshippers and are, instead, confused as to why everyone is so upset) about what exactly they voted for.

Mass deportations. This is the main platform he ran on. On a human level, this is horrifying, and it's going to cause unthinkable and unconscionable suffering. Maybe it'd be helpful to discuss how immigrants (including privileged white legal immigrants) pay taxes, can't vote, don't have access to benefits, and cannot risk committing even minor crimes for fear of deportation. Maybe it wouldn't. So. On an inhuman level, this is very expensive and a massive waste of resources. If you can't get people to give a shit about other human beings, you can at the very least ask how these deportations are not going to detract resources and attention away from the 'American needs' they keep harping on about.

Getting rid of all environmental regulations and AI regulations and amping up use of coal and oil. This is devastating for the entire world in the fight against climate change. I think this is how Trump means to reduce inflation, though his entire 'reduce taxes and reduce inflation' plan is so incredibly vague. At best, it's more trickle down theory bullshit.

Reducing American involvement in foreign conflicts. This sounds really great, actually. And yet. No foreign conflicts are specified—except for strengthening support to Israel. So. It would seem that the US is becoming even more involved in genocide, and most likely less involved in aiding Ukraine.

Improving the American education system. Hilariously, Trump's solution to a failing education system is to get rid of the Department of Education and leave everything up to the states? When you read on, it becomes clear that this is so schools can teach exclusively American history—and a very specific, propagandized version of it at that.

He mentions wanting to build a DOME MISSILE DEFENSE SHIELD around the US? Why is no one talking about this? This is formally written down. What the fuck does that mean?

He also talks about REDUCING censorship and protecting freedom of speech. In the coming years, I would ask your conservative relatives to hold him to that.

They also promised affordable housing, college, and healthcare. There's no plan for how the fuck they're going to do this while decreasing taxes, but I'd tell your conservative relatives to hold him to that as well.

Not quite sure if this is sarcasm or not (I’m too tired to figure it out) but let me explain some things to you and others.

- The majority of politicians (not all) are “warmongers”. This includes presidents. I have my own opinions about the US involving themselves in wars (but is another long discussion for another day).

- I am not a huge fan of Harris. I don’t fully agree with her views. BUT I still voted for her and Waltz (I also am not a big fan of him too but for different reasons).

- I voted for her because I know out of all of them, she was going to be the better choice for all of us. I know a lot of yall don’t like that way of thinking but let me give you some advice. Our country has 2 major parties (democrats and republicans) and we also have Green Party and independent. When it’s time to vote for your final choice- I don’t look at third party and that’s because I know there is a very low chance that they will get electoral votes. (I have my opinions ons on electoral votes). I focus on the democrat and republican candidates. I am not a republican. I do not agree with a lot of their views and policies. But I’m also not a democrat too. I’ve shifted from them due to the fact that the majority of them thinks that Jews/Israelis are monsters. I can’t stand by a party that supports that harmful and hateful view point. When it came time for me to vote I knew I had to pick the person that would be better for all of us. Harris was the better option. When voting don’t just think about yourself but think about the ones whose lives and rights are at stake.

- I remember Trumps first term. It was scary. Me and my family were making plans to leave the country (in case we had to). I was afraid for my and my loved ones safety.

- Trump winning this election is bad for all of us. This is why voting is fucking important y’all. If you are eligible to vote- then fucking VOTE. -There will be no more reproductive rights. If you need an abortion or have a miscarriage, you are screwed. You won’t be able to get the abortion and if someone finds out that you were looking into getting one, that person could report you and you might get arrested. If you are having a miscarriage, you still have to carry it to full term or you may get arrested (or you may also die)…

- LGBTQ rights, say goodbye to those. Same sex marriage will be back on debate and possibly will be banned. Want to adopt kids? Well you won’t be able to anymore because you’re not straight or cis. You want to start transitioning, well you won’t be able to because that’s illegal…

- I can keep going. That is how fucked we are. We are so fucked it’s not even funny. I knew trump was gonna get votes from his cult- i mean supporters. I also knew that Harris was gonna get her votes too. But those who refused to vote or voted third party to punish Harris, you guys played a factor in trump winning. Where the fuck are people getting the "Agatha is a misandrist" thing?

Just because you're a misandrist, babe, doesn't mean she is.

Agatha is a misandrist? As in she hates men and boys? Based on what? There's nothing that supports this. And as far as canon goes, her only on screen murder victims were women? She has even joked about not having any female friends. But obviously no one says she hates women because you know, context matters.

It's also a really odd thing to say about someone who has been such a loving mother to Nicky and a supportive motherly figure to Billy and has helped him bring Tommy back to life. Also in her What If episode she has three good male friends.

If they mean she wouldn't date men or is not attracted to them, well first and foremost there is canon to consider:

"Not straight" includes every identity under LGBTQ+/queer umbrella. It's simple logic. It means you can headcanon her with any queer identity you want. It means if I want to headcanon her as asexual, I can and no one can stop me.

Moreover there's this deleted scene from Wandavision in which Agnes flirts with a man.

Yes she's under mind control but Wanda changed her memories/personality not her sexuality. And since it doesn't contradict anything in canon, it can be considered part of it.

Also Kathryn who has been a major part of developing mcu's version of Agatha, addressed this topic directly in an interview. Agatha's sexuality can not be labeled, because Agatha herself isn't someone who likes to be put in a box.

Kathryn was asked a question about chemistry and the sexual tension between both witches and why was it important to portray the character of Agatha as queer. Responding to this, Kathryn replied, “Agatha loves everyone – and probably does. Gender doesn’t matter. Love is love. Sex is sex. I don’t think you can pigeonhole Agatha“.

Further, Kathryn explained that it was natural for her character to develop as a queer character in the universe as she loves everyone. She continued, “Honestly, it’s the natural progression. And last but not least, is the fact that Death in comics is genderfluid but mostly presents as fem. So we can assume that's true for her mcu version too.

It is sad and ironic that when the creators try their best to be as inclusive as possible for queer community, there are a part of fandom who decide to gatekeep. They need to remember that as near as a few years ago queer people were harassed for their queer content in fandom. Hell, there were people complaining about Agatha's queerness in the show even now. How is what they're doing any different? Fandom belongs to everyone.

firstly,

- she is a zionist. she literally has ties to the IDF. she has publicly stated several times that's she proud of her Israeli and IDF ties.

- she used breonna taylor's death to promote her book. the post is literally STILL UP in her Instagram. 25 September 2020.

- she wrote harmful stereotypes and arcs for the characters of colour in her book series.

eg 1: Tarquin (acotar) and Helion (acotar) play into the hypersexual black male stereotype that has been around since Shakespeare in England.

eg 2: the Viper Queen (crescent city) is an extension of the Asian dragon lady stereotype. she's the ruler of an underground drug ring and is heavily associated with snakes.

eg 3: this will be a huge spoiler for the throne of glass series, if you're planning to read it. Nehemiah (tog) is another issue. her character's whole purpose was to die so that the white character would have development.

eg 4: in acotar, the map is laid out to clearly state that the fantasy England are the good guys while the fantasy Ireland are the barbaric invaders. (this is extremely offensive considering the actual REAL-LIFE history between Ireland and England)

- the way sjm portrays LGBTQIA+ people in her books are just disgusting, especially bisexuals. her bisexual characters are portrayed as people who will fuck anything that moves. that's disgusting.

- she also portrays and romanticizes abusive relationships. for instance, rowan (tog) hitting the female main character upon first meeting her. and don't even get me started on rhys and feyre's relationship ughhhh. you can search it about them, I'm almost positive there'll be tons of videos and posts explaining how rhys is abusive to feyre and how he treats her.

in conclusion, what hasn't sjm done?

lol jk. in conclusion, sjm as an author has pretty much done damage to the book community. her stans are genuinely insane- one mention of all the things she did and they'll go, "oh it's a long time ago!" "she's changed" I find that hard to believe, actually. her stans move like literal cults.
